What We Believe

The Word of God Community Church is a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching, soul-winning independent church.

As such, we do not stress many of the distinctives which are characteristic of various denominations. Instead, we stress essential Christian doctrines which we believe to be consistent with the faith which was delivered once and for all to the saints. (Jude 3, NASB)

IN VIEW OF THE PRECEDING, WE EMPHASIZE THE FOLLOWING BIBLICAL DOCTRINES:

THE BIBLE
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the God-breathed Word of God. We believe these Scriptures to be inerrant and infallible in the original writings, in all subject matters. We believe that God has faithfully preserved His Word as the supreme authority in all matters.

THE TRINITY
We believe in one God who eternally exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that the preceding three persons (the Trinity) are of one and the same substance and essence, and are thus equal in every attribute.

JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of God through a supernatural act of the Holy Spirit, and was then born of the virgin named Mary. In view of this, we believe that Jesus is unique, the only one of His kind. He was and is unique because He is one person with two distinct natures: the nature of God and the nature of a sinless human being.

THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity. We believe that the Holy Spirit’s present ministry consists of, first and foremost, glorifying the person and work of Jesus Christ, and convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and the judgment to come. We also believe that the Holy Spirit indwells, empowers, and distributes spiritual gifts to all believers, none exempted.

SIN
We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, thereby incurring, not only physical, but spiritual death (separation from God); and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature which is manifested in thought, word, and deed.

JESUSDEATH
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins (past sin, present sin, and future sin) according to the Scriptures, as a representative or substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe, trust, and cling to Him are justified in the sight of God on the basis of Jesus’ blood alone.

JESUSRESURRECTION
We believe in Jesus’ bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, and His present ministry as our Great High Priest where He intercedes for all believers.

JESUSRETURN
We believe in the personal, imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
SALVATION
We believe that salvation is offered through God’s grace, or undeserved favor, and is received or appropriated by faith in Jesus Christ alone. We believe that those who have been saved by grace though faith in Jesus Christ are secure in their salvation as evidenced by their perseverance in the things of God.

OUR RESURRECTION
We believe in the bodily resurrection of those who are trusting in Christ unto salvation. We believe that after the believer’s resurrection, he/she will experience the eternal bliss of the new heaven and new earth.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of those who have never trusted in Christ unto salvation. We believe that after the unbeliever’s resurrection and judgment, he/she will experience eternal, conscious torment in the  “lake of fire and brimstone.”

SATAN
We believe that Satan is a personal being, the author of sin, and the cause of man’s fall into sin. We believe that Satan is the open and declared enemy of God and man. We believe that Satan is presently working in the world to eternally condemn the souls of men. We believe that Satan and his fallen angels will be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

THE CHURCH
We believe in the Church, or Christ’s Body, in the universal and local sense. In other words, we believe that there is one universal Church, and many local churches within the sphere of this one true Church. We believe that the primary mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel to all the world.

ORDINANCES
We believe that the ordinances of the Church as given by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are: baptism by immersion following a salvation experience; and communion.

FINANCIAL GIVING
We believe that all the endeavors of the Church should be supported by the love-gifts of its members and others who are led to contribute to this ministry.
